Cardiac arrest is fatal and to resuscitate in time is challenging. In the hospital setup patient may get immediate help and may survive, but out of hospital patients it is very difficult. A study about the helpfulness of existing guidelines shows uncertainty.

Surgical Patients with IBD at Greater Risk for Blood Clots

The incidence of DVT, PE, stroke and myocardial infarction within 30 days of surgery are higher in patients with IBD compared to other patients.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease are at greater risk for postoperative deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, according to a study.

According to the study, patients with IBD have historically been known to develop thromboembolic complications. However, current guidelines for DVT and PE prophylaxis do not mention patients with IBD.

The researchers found that IBD was a risk factor for blood clots, but found no increased risk among patients with IBD for postoperative myocardial infarction or stroke

A new report shows, for the first time, that older men who spend the least time asleep in the so-called slow-wave sleep (SWS) phase are more likely to develop hypertension than those who spend the most time in SWS.

A study shows for the first time that poor-quality blood-pressure reflected by reduced slow-wave sleep, puts individuals at significantly increased risk of developing high blood pressure and that this effect appears to be independent of the influence of breathing pauses during sleep.
