Chronic daily headache (CDH) is a descriptive term that encompasses several different headache diagnoses.

Epidemiology:

  • Chronic daily headache affects 4% of the adult population in the United States and around the world.
  • The vast majority of CDH patients suffer from either chronic migraine or chronic tension-type headache.
  • Chronic daily headache results in significant pain and suffering, reduction in quality of life, and enormous economic costs to society.

The first overhaul in four years of the American Heart Association guidelines on cardiovascular disease prevention in women has lowered the threshold for who is considered “high risk,”

“There have been a couple of major changes,” she notes. “As well as the lowering of this threshold, we also focus on what can be accomplished in the ‘real world’ as opposed to what is achievable in clinical trials, and we highlight the fact that women who have had pregnancy complications are at increased risk of CVD.”

Fibromyalgia

Medscape recently published a debate posing the below mentioned questions to Dr. Charles Argoff, a neurologist specializing in pain and Dr. Jonathan Kay, a rheumatologist.

–       What is fibromyalgia, aside from being a major frustration to patients and clinicians?

–       And what causes it?

Dr Argoff said that fibromyalgia is itself a distinct condition associated with widespread reduction in a patient’s pain threshold and thus a heightened sensitivity to pain.

Calories on menus don’t affect kids’ food choices

U.S. researchers said they found that children and adolescents noticed the calories posted on the menu but the calorie counts made little difference in what they chose to order. The researchers said taste was the most important factor the children and teens gave for their menu selections.

The study, published online in the International Journal of Obesity, challenges the notion that calorie labeling affects purchasing behavior of teens or parents buying food for their children.
