New guidelines were published to improve quality and function in PDN. This was done in a review which included pharmacological agents like opioids, antioxidants, analgesic patches, anaesthetic patches, capsaicin cream and nonpharmacologic modalities like infrared therapy, nerve stimulation, acupuncture, and magnet.

Summary of treatment recommendations are pregabalin, gabapentin, sodium valproate, Venlafaxine, duloxetine, amitriptyline, dextromethorphan, tramadon, oxycodone and capsaicin. Percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation 3 to 4 weeks should be considered for the treatment of PDN.
