With rise in obesity more and more people opt for bariatric procedures like gastric bands. If the gastric band is too tight it can cause persistent reflux of food into her airway. Team @CMHF
A case was reported wherein gastric banding was done in a woman who developed respiratory problems due to the migration of the band. Doctors noted that serious respiratory problems, including lung damage, can result from malfunction of adjustable gastric bands implanted in obese patients. Therefore it is necessary to do x-ray chest or CT chest if the patient present with respiratory symptoms.
With growing popularity of gastric banding the physicians should be aware of the possibility of gastric band malfunction in patients with pulmonary problems following band placement in obese patients.
