BMI in children – charts and Calculators

Posted by: admin on: June 9, 2011

Though most primary care practitioners do not calculate BMI, discerning ones lament there is no way to calculate BMI in kids and teenagers. With increasing prevalence of obesity in children, it has become necessary that we calculate BMI of our overweight children.

Team@CMHF

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that beginning at age 2, body mass index (BMI) be calculated and plotted for every child on a yearly basis. Although BMI is calculated in the same way for children and adults, the criteria used to interpret the BMI number for children and teens are different from those used for adults.
