Adults’ risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) is reduced if their school-age children undergo an educational program in cardiovascular disease prevention, Brazilian researchers suggest.

CVD prevention could be more successful if it initially focuses on children, as they have the potential to introduce healthier lifestyle habits to the whole family, said a researcher.

The researchers carried out a study involving children and parents and collected weight, height, waist circumference, arterial blood pressure, and laboratory data from the children and their parents at baseline and after 1 year. All participants completed a nutrition and exercise survey before and after the study.

CV prevention programs could be more effective if children were involved in awareness. This strategy could incorporate healthy lifestyle habits [within] the whole family.
