Early revascularization may reduce refractory ischemia in NSTE-ACS

Posted by: admin on: November 24, 2011

When and what intervention is needed in IHD is quite challenging at times. Lot of studies are under taken. One such study suggests that coronary revascularization if done early in NSTE-ACS, the better.

A research carried out says, early coronary revascularization may markedly reduce the incidence of refractory ischemia in non ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) patients.

In a study designed to investigate whether an early or deferred revascularization strategy results in improved clinical outcomes of NSTE-ACS patients, it was found that neither was superior, and that timing of revascularization had little impact on the incidence of recurrent myocardial infarction.

However it was observed that there was a significant decrease in the occurrence of refractory ischemia in the early intervention group. A trend was also seen towards a lower bleeding rate in this group, but this did not reach statistical significance.

Compared with early intervention, a deferred strategy was associated with a lower incidence of repeat intervention at 30 days.
