For Most with Diabetes, Revascularization Can Wait

Virtually no patients with type 2 diabetes and documented coronary artery disease and coronary ischemia benefit from immediate coronary revascularization, as long as they receive intensive medical management, based on the outcomes of more than 1,000 patients who were randomized to the deferred revascularization arm of the BARI 2D trial.

Managing pediatric asthma

Asthma, a chronic lung disease that affects more than seven million children under the age of 18, occurs when lung inflammation causes the airways to narrow, triggering symptoms including wheezing, breathlessness, tightening in the chest and coughing. A variety of environmental irritants and allergens — cigarette smoke, pets, dust mites, mold, air pollution and respiratory infections — may cause symptoms.
